Healthy Childhood Tips for Fathers

Being a father is the most important role that you will ever have. It is very important to know this and treat it as important as it is. Children look up to you as a father. They see how you do things, why you do things, what you value, and hear what you say. It is very important that you take all of this into consideration. You are the one person that can make and break your child. While being such an influence may be overwhelming, you can use it to implement positive characteristics in your children and help them to gain a healthy childhood, by example.

When raising your children, it is important to teach those ways to be healthy. These healthy habits will stay with a child for the rest of their life. Try to motivate your children to perform some type of physical activity for at least an hour or more a day. Try to avoid encouraging them to sit in front of a video game, a computer, a radio, and television. You could encourage them to walk around the neighborhood with you. You could take them to the park for some playtime, or you could work together on a project. It is important to express the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Inform them of the dangers associated with these types of behaviors. Tell them how to properly wash their hands and why they must do this. It is also important to teach them when they should wash their hands. Examples would be after using the restroom, before and after meals, and after playing in public areas.

Another important thing to teach your children is the proper eating habits. It is vital that a child receives at least three meals a day and healthy snacks in between the meals. It is important to teach them to try to avoid drinks that are high in sugar and caffeine, such as sodas. Another way to get through to your children is to sit down together as a family for meals. This shows the child that it is important to respect the time that you have to meals and that it is an important role to do it together as a family.

Be sure to teach and practice steps for good oral health. It is important that your child understands that they should brush their teeth at least three times a day with the proper toothbrush for their age. As the child matures, it is important to teach them other methods of preventive care, such as rinsing and flossing. It is also important to inform them that they should change their toothbrush periodically so that they can maximize the benefits of brushing. You may want to set aside time for a special trip to gather all necessary dental equipment that they require to get the most out of their oral care.

Of course, there are many more tips that fathers can take to encourage their child to live healthy, but these steps a great start to any regime.
